Nigel is a Certified Financial Fiduciary® & fee-based investment advisor, as well as the founding principal of Better Federal Retirement & Valdez Financial Group, LLC. 

Over the past 24 years, Nigel Valdez has become a known and recognized financial planner for Federal  employees, especially USPS  and VA employees,  in the Southwest & Texas. 

His is a Federal Retirement Consultant®, member in good standing of the National Financial Educators Council, has served 2-years as a Society for Financial Awareness president and 2 as president of American Financial Education Alliance, Greater Tucson Chapter #4709.

He has taught FERS & CSRS employee benefits, Social Security, and Taxes in Retirement classes at the Tucson VA, AFGE & VAEA sponsored events, and Pima Community College until the programs were closed due to COVID in 2020. 

Today he works in-person and virtually and since COVID has Federal employee and retiree clients all across the country. 

Considering Nigel’s childhood, it is not surprising that he chose this field.

His father was a math teacher, mother a hospice nurse, and his stepfather a career federal employee. 

From them he learned the love to teaching others how numbers, math and money work, the importance and impact of life-cycle planning decisions, and the importance civil service. 

The way his stepfather cared for the military and civilian clients that he served, as well as the way the CSRS federal system cared for him when he retired, showed Nigel the lasting benefit of caring for those people who have spent their careers caring for others. Nigel endeavors to pay it forward.

Now that the FERS federal system requires its employees to take individual responsibility for their retirement plans, a solid financial plan is the best way to care for you and your family.
